Update.

I haven’t been around for awhile, and for that I apologize.  It’s been a long week, what with work, getting my car, dealing with some stress along the way and all that good stuff.

New car:

I bought a 2006 Mazda3 i Sedan.  I’m very pleased with it.  It’s black, with a tan/black interior.  The column is a rake and tele, the engine is a 4-cylinder (145-ish hp), and the seats adjust vertically (a very nice feature).  It has a 6-CD changer that’s in the dash (no messing with stuff in the trunk).  Speaking of the trunk, it has enclosed hinges so you can fill it right up to the top and not worry about your stuff getting caught on the hinges.  The radio is good.  It’s easy to set your stations.  The car has cruise (very good idea), radio controls on the wheel (not necessary, but a nice touch) and a nice feel to the wheel.

The steering is responsive, as is the acceleration and braking.  I’m happy with the ride and handling.  There is very little shake on the road when you’re driving.  The tires grip well and I feel very secure in the driver’s seat.

Overall, I’m very pleased with this car.  I’d buy another Mazda for the styling, safety and value.

Picture:

My car is black, not this dark grey.  Anyhow, it’s a very well designed, tight car.

Work:

Work’s been insane.  I’ve been barely able to keep up with some of the stuff that’s going on.  Things are changing every day with this program.  *sigh*

Personal:

Well, been keeping busy with all of the things that keep me moving.  I’m addicted to plurk and I’ve met some cool people on there.  It’s like twitter or identi.ca, but different.  Anyway, I’m gamerchick02 on all of those services.  Feel free to check out my profiles.

~~~
Off for some TV and whatnot.  I hope to have more updates soon.  I just haven’t had a lot of time to post stuff here.
I think I’ve discovered something.
Green.
Think about that for a few minutes.  What does it meant to you?
Does it mean:
  • clean water and air?
  • using reusable bags at the grocery store?
  • downsizing your car so you use less gasoline?
  • driving less?
  • using public transport?
  • refurbing a computer so you don’t have to buy a new one?
  • reusing things?
  • recycling?
It means all of those things to me.  It means reducing my carbon footprint by carpooling with my family when we go somewhere (instead of meeting there).  It means that I collect my trips together so I use less gas.  It means I shut off my computers at night.  It means I turn down the heat in the winter and the temperature up on the air conditioner in the summer.  It means using an electric mower.  It also means recycling everything I can.
I’ve found a political party that fits with what I believe.  I once thought third parties existed to “steal” votes from the main two parties.
The more I think, I see that the two-party system is not working.  I notice that we’re not yet out of Iraq, we’ve got record high fuel prices, no public transport in my hometown, we’ve got record unemployment, etc.  We need a change.
Something different.  Something Green.  That’s why I won’t be supporting Obama or McCain for president.  I’ll be supporting McKinney/Clemonte for president and vice-president this year.
If you want change in our political system, vote real change.  Vote third party.
OpenSuse on the Laptop
I’ve tried many different types of Linux on my laptop:
  • Fedora 8
  • Ubuntu
  • Kubuntu
  • SamLinux2007
  • Arch
  • OpenSuse 10.3
  • Xubuntu
  • FreeSpire
  • Some Gnome/Enlightenment/Ubuntu mashup I got out of a magazine
  • Debian Lenny
None of these worked fully till I tried the newest version of OpenSuse.
OpenSuse 11.0 is heaven.  It recognized my graphics, my wireless card (the new RaLink one) and all of the other doodads that need to work for your computer to be considered functional.  Everything was pretty much out-of-box except for the sound.  I still have to mess with the sound.  That’s the only headache I have.  That, and this one-click thing.  I’m trying to figure that out as well.  I want to install Gwibber.
Anyway, I’m extremely happy with this OpenSuse, especially since it comes in a Gnome flavor.  I love Gnome (don’t really know why, but I just do).  Pretty easy to deal with.
I’ll post more when I get the sound fixed.  Need my internet radio…
Google Chrome
I’m giving Google’s Chrome browser a try.  Well, I like it.  At first blush, it seems snappy, slick, and shiny.
That might just be because it’s different.
Anyway, there’s not an option to block flash ads and other stuff.  Til we have that option, I won’t be using this browser too much.  Back to Flock.
