More about golf

I told myself that I’d never play golf in my life.  I swore up and down that it was a dumb game, that it was frustrating, that I’d absolutely HATE it.

Guess what I did yesterday?

I played golf and had fun.

I sunk my first putt on the 7th hole (we started on the 7th).  That was a huge confidence builder.  We ended up not finishing, but we were only 1 over par when we stopped.

The guys I was playing with were very helpful… They showed me how to hold the club, how to swing the club (there’s a special way to swing it…) and where to aim.  Aiming is surprisingly hard.  The target is kinda small, as targets go.

Ah…  I did have too much beer though.  About 5 from 1 to 6 pm…  And the heat!  It was very hot; about 87 F.  I think having that much to drink caused me to become dehydrated.  Hence, I had a massive headache this morning.

Oh well, I had fun.  That’s what counts, right??

Golf

There.

I’ve admitted it.

I’m golfing tomorrow.  The most white/corporate/yuppie thing.  Golf.

Anyway, I’m gonna suck it up. I’m on a team of four… three guys.  GUYS.  They couldn’t have put a team together of chicks?  Oh well.

I’m gonna wear my red polo tomorrow.  Maybe get some good Tiger Woods karma going on.  Heh.  You never know… I might be good.

Oh well.  I’ll blog more after I get done with the golf tomorrow.

Crash in Flock

I’m getting a strange crash in Flock in Ubuntu… I think it has to do with Flash.

I go to a flash-enabled site (youtube) and click on a video to play it… and nothing.  I click again, and the browser just closes.

Hmm.

I’m going to post to my email list and see if anything happens.

Flock 2.0 beta (one)

I’ve been using Flock forever (as many of you know).

The Flock Team has always put together a rock-solid browser based on the Firefox code-base with add-ons to make your “social browsing” experience all the more rich.

When I started out using this browser, the services that were included were blogs (livejournal, blogger, etc), Flickr, Photobucket, del.icio.us and magnolia.  It’s expanded to include webmail, piczo, youtube, pownce, twitter and facebook.  All of these services are integrated into the way Flock works.

Right now, I’m using del.icio.us, livejournal, gmail, yahoo mail, photobucket, twitter, facebook, digg and pownce.  Now, don’t forget; the more things you have running, the slower the browser is going to be.  It’s the same way with Firefox; if you have many extensions, your memory footprint will be much larger than if you’re running a bare-bones browser.

As for addons, I have adblock plus (essential, IMHO), flashblock (again, another essential), google reader watcher (follows all my RSS feeds), and FireGPG.

Now, RSS is incorporated into Flock, but I use google reader because I check my feeds on many different computers (work, desktop, laptop) and if I don’t keep use something that’s web-based, I’ll end up re-reading my news feeds.  Very annoying.  I grabbed google reader watcher so it would follow my feeds for me; ie, keep me in the loop as to when I have new feeds.

The browser is stable, fast and easy to use.

If you’re a social networking fiend, then I recommend Flock.  If you do basic browsing, I recommend Firefox.

Please also remember if you try out this software (the beta version) do remember that it’s BETA, which means that it may crash or have bugs.  They’re still working the kinks out.

So far, I haven’t run into any bugs.

I love this browser.  It works and works well.  Like I said before, if you are into the social web scene, grab Flock and try it out.

This beta uses the Firefox 3 codebase, so it takes care of any “memory leak” issues that you might have had with Flock 1.2 or Firefox 2.

I have no complaints about the browser thus far.  I love the way it handles on both Windows and Ubuntu (note: the linux version fixed the height of the entry boxes of Twitter, Pownce and Facebook).

Grab it here.

And, don’t forget that firefox addons can be used in Flock.  Get them here.

Enjoy Flock, and spread the word about it.

Writing, Podcasts, iTunes, and Music

Writing:

I need to get writing.  I need to actually complete my fanfic that I started a year ago.  I’ve still got that L/H one out there that is sitting with Lynley and Havers going to Heathrow to pick up some FBI agents.  *sigh*  Gotta get on that.

I’ve got a NCIS fic that I’m also trying to complete.  Writing for NCIS is not the easiest.  I thought I knew the characters well enough, but It’s not easy at all.  I’m trying to get Ziva and Tony together, but I don’t really know how to do it.

That’s where I’m at on writing.  I’ll try to get those done in the next month or so…  I really want to get them posted so people can read and critique them.

Podcasts:

I’ve found a couple of podcasts that I want to keep up on:  Car Talk, Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me, and World Cafe.  I’d like to find the one for Women in Music, but that seems to be almost impossible.

iTunes:

New obsession.  iTunes is awesome!  It’s easy to use and easy to rip music with.  I’m particularly happy with the quality of the music it rips.

Music:

I’m on the second crate.  Damn.  It takes forever to rip.  I’m on the “F’s” now… Fountains of Wayne.

1985, Bowling for Soup

Woo Hoo Hooooo?

Woo woo wooooo!

Debbie just hit the wall
She never had it all
One Prozac a day
Husband’s a CPA
Her dreams went out the door
When she turned 24.
Only been with one man
What happened to her plan?

She was gonna be an actress
She was gonna be a star
She was gonna shake her ass
On the hood of White Snake’s car
Her yellow SUV is now the enemy
Looks at her average life
And nothin, has been…
All right since

Bruce Springsteen, Madonna
Way before Nervana
There was U2 and Blondie
And music still on MTV
Her two kids in high school
They tell her that she’s uncool
‘Cause she’s still preoccupied
With 19, 19, 1985

Woo Hoo Hooooo!
(1985)
Woo Hoo Hooooo!

She’s seen all the classics
She knows every line
“Breakfast Club”, “Pretty In Pink”
Even “St. Elmo’s Fire”
She rocked out to Wham!
Not a big Limp Biscuit fan
Thought she’d get a hand
On a member of Duran Duran

Where’s the mini-skirt made of snakeskin
And who’s the other guy that’s singing in Van Halen?
When did reality become T.V.?
What ever happened to sitcoms, game shows,
(on the radio)

Way before Nirvana

Woo Hoo Hooooo!

She hates time, make it stop
When did Motley Crue become classic rock? (classic rock)
And when did Ozzy become an actor?
Please make this stop, stop, STOP(tick tick tick) AND BRING BACK

Way before Nirvana
There was U2 and Blondie

Posted because I can.  And because I kinda feel like “Debbie”.  Cept I would have been 4 in 1985…  Anyway, I didn’t have a misspent youth.  Quarterlife crisis, anyone??

Random Tech and Random Update

Ok.  I know I’ve been awful with updating my blog recently.

I’ve been really busy.  Work’s been taking it out of me.  I like working there, but I’ve been very busy and sometimes I just want to retreat.

Anyway…

I’ve started using iTunes, for windows, as I don’t have a Mac.  Anyway, it’s a very slick program and works well.  I’m ripping music right now.  Having about a bazillion CDs makes it a long and arduous process.  I’ve just started the “B’s” with Joan Baez.

Windows is working really well on my laptop.  I haven’t had any problems with it recently.  Same with the the desktop.  Ubuntu is chugging along and doing what I need it to.

The only problem I’m running into is that Flock has a couple of irritations on Ubuntu.  That is for a different post.

I got an external hard drive.

It’s a Western Digital.  I ended up getting it on sale at Circuit City… $130.  Yes, yes, if I had ordered the thing on newegg or something, it would have been cheaper, but sometimes the shipping bites you in the arse.

250 gigs.  Should be enough for awhile, anyway.  Heh.  I’m putting my music on it so I can transfer it between both of my computers.

I’ve been using Twitter and Pownce.  Twitter is the microblogging platform you can post to via the web, Flock, SMS (mobile phone), or a downloadable program (twirhl, etc).  It’s fun and pretty easy; especially if you don’t want to do a whole blog post on something.  Pownce is miniblogging…. like if you want to post a paragraph about something really quick.

Don’t think I’m abandoning LiveJournal… no way (especially since I paid for it)!  I love LiveJournal and I will always post to it.  It will hold my random posts on different subjects as well as my fanfic.  :)

I think it’s time to wrap this post up…  Maybe go read a book or get caught up on my RSS feeds.  I didn’t check them hardly at all yesterday, so I have over a hundred.  *sigh*
