What Do You Have To Say? – An Artist Is…

Short answer:

Yes.

Long answer:

I consider myself an artist because I use images to create other images (albeit on the computer) and also because I use words to create stories.  It’s very rewarding.

In my job, I use mathematics, physics and design principles to create working designs.

Good stuff.

dA Hoodie

Hmmm.

I’m half thinking about ordering this:

dA Hoodie

I’m not sure though… it’s like 48 bucks.  But if I don’t get it soon, my size will be sold out.  Anyway, I’m not sure where I’d wear it.  I could wear it to work with a smart polo underneath it or something.  Good for going to the plant with.

It looks comfy to the max.  I need more hoodies like I need a hole in the head though.

Circus

As many of you know, I was working the Shrine Circus this weekend.  I’m so glad it’s done, but it’s quite fiun.  I get to see people I don’t normally see.  I got to see Jamey and all the other clowns.  :)  Jamey is my favorite because I know him very will without his makeup.

Anyway, we worked very hard.  We made sandwiches (ground bologna), chili, and chicken and biscuits.  After that was done, we got the food around for the walkthrough (this was all on Saturday…).  We prepped meatballs and sauce, chicken wings, veggie trays, meat and cheese trays, cracker trays, a relish tray, and bread trays.  Once we got all of those together, we took them over to the civic center (TheDow Center) and set up.  We got things around early…  But I’d rather be early.

Then, we had to serve and keep the trays together.  That’s the hardest because we have to watch what’s going on and jump in with fresh trays at the best time.  I’m getting better at judging when the best time is, just from working at the different dinners at the temple.

After the walkthrough, we did tear down and clean up…  Then we went back to the temple and washed the dishes, organized the leftovers, and generally cleaned up.  We had a very long night; we didn’t get home until 10:30.

Then, we had today to contend with.  Today had fewer to serve (only two shows) but we still were busy.  Unfortunately, Ashis didn’t get a chance to get dinner… although from what I understand, he got some chicken and biscuits earlier in the day.  All the other clowns got food, as well as the other Shriners.

I don’t know how much we pulled in, but I’m sure we made a healthy profit.  We had leftover from the walkthrough, so we had a chance to make ham and cheese sandwiches for the guys.  They really liked that.

Oh, and I made a young man’s day today.  He was… oh, about 10 or so.  He didn’t know what ground bologna was (his family was a performing group out of Venezuela) but he asked for a cheese sandwich.  I figured, “what the hey” and made him a cheese sandwich!  I put three pieces of cheese on it… I’m not skimpy!  His eyes just lit right up when I said I’d make it for him.  When I handed it to him, he must have thought it was like gold!!  Made me happy.  :)

Now, I think I’m off to sleep…  I’m so tired.

School…

I feel school again.

No, I did not mean “cool” I meant school.  I’m at my brother’s fraternity house, on the futon in the living room, typing happily away.  And, guess what?  I miss school.  I miss the camaraderie, the late night stop ‘n rob runs, Ron’s runs… midnight Meijer trips, getting drunk with my friends and watching stupid movies… staying up almost all night and playing video games at the DX Lan party because I can.  All that stuff I miss.  I even miss class a little bit.  I miss talking to my professors, contributing to classroom discussions, doing CAD work…  I even miss the math problems.  Silly, eh?

Oh well.  I might look into CMU for a Master’s program, but I’d like to work for a while.  I want to learn as much as I can on the job before going for a Master’s anywhere.  I just love working with my peers to solve a problem of some sort.  That’s what engineering is all about, isn’t it?  Solving problems (sometimes even massively difficult ones) and learning new stuff.  Every job is like that… But some use their skills more than others.

Just some of my random thoughts for a Saturday…

More Random Laptop Updates

Ok.  The other day we went to Best Buy and I picked up a sleeve for the laptop as well as a small, wireless mouse.  Granted, it’s a Microsoft branded one, but I am using it on a Microsoft computer, so it works.  *grin*  I quite like it.  It’s small and easy to use.  I have a USB thingy sticking out of my computer, but I have a wireless mouse.  :)  I’ll take what I can get.  Heh.

The sleeve works really well.  I can put it in any bag I have and “viola”, I have a laptop bag.  It’s great.  Since I have a plethora of bags, I can pick one, put what I need in it, plop the computer and its other stuff in it, and off I go.  I just have to remember the power cord and mouse.  *grin*

Ah.  New tech toys.  So much fun.

Laptop!!

Whee!  I bought a laptop.

Specs:

Gateway MX3225
Intel Celeron M
1.50 GHz processor
1 GB RAM
Integrated wireless
DVD drive
WinXP Home SP2

Programs:

It came with McAfee and something called Bigfix, as well as an unactivated copy of MSOffice.  Basically, it came with all of the basic Windows XP stuff.  I got rid of McAfee and the Bigfix thing…  Not really needed.

I installed Pidgin, Flock, Firefox, IE7, OpenOffice, Comodo Antivirus and Malware, X-chat 2, and Gimp.

Plans:

My plans for this computer system and my desktop are as follows–

  1. Keep Windows XP on the laptop.  It runs fine, and I don’t have to mess with anything.
  2. Reinstall Ubuntu on the desktop.
  3. No dual-booting!
  4. Get an external USB hard drive or something so I can share my files easily between both computers (this is needed… I want to work on my fanfics on the laptop when I’m on the couch).

The only thing I really need now is a small mouse for the laptop and a laptop bag.  My mom offered to make me a bag, but I’m not sure.  If I can’t find anything for relatively cheap, then I’ll have her make me one.

I love this laptop.  It’s lightweight, easy to use, pretty fast, and small.

Router and other related computer stuff…

Ahhhh…

Blazing fast internet.  It’s wonderful.

We had some issues with the router initially and the hard drive that’s now in it could crap out at ay minute, but at least we have the settings saved.  We initially had a CD version of PFSense (running on FreeBSD) and a USB key to save the settings on.  Well, the USB key wasn’t working well (we don’t know if it was the USB key or the program) so my brother just happened on a spare hard drive (one of his friends gave it to him…) and he installed that.  I was without internet for about a half hour, but that’s ok.  Anyway, he got it up and running and things are running like pie.  Happy pie.

*grin*

I got my updates for Kubuntu yesterday.  Only took about five minutes… Much different from dial up.  Over dial up, it would have taken at least three days.  DAYS!!  Insanity.

We have wireless in the house too.  Yay, although I’m not really utilizing it right now.  If I get a laptop, I might more.  My DS is loving the wireless, although I don’t use it too much.  I posted my DS friend codes here yesterday, with the exception of Animal Crossing.  Yeah, I gotta get that one started again…

Oh, and if anyone uses Skype, feel free to add me: KUBulldogchick, same as my AIM/AOL chat.  I’m not signed in too much, but when I am, I’ll be available to talk or chat.

Now, I’m off for some dinner… Yum.
